Uttarakhand Republic Day Parade Tableau Adjudged Best, Says State

Uttarakhand's tableau was adjudged as the best float at the Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path, the state government said on Monday.

Congratulating the people of the state for the historic achievement, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "It is a moment of glory for all of us." The 'Manaskhand' tableau -- showcased the proposed Manaskhand corridor project, a brainchild of Dhami. The project will link all major temples of the Kumaon region and develop them along the lines of the Char Dham in the Garhwal region.

It was historic as the tableau was adjudged the best among tableaux that took part in the first Republic Day parade after the revamping and renaming of Rajpath as Kartavya Path, the state government said in an official release. In the 'Puranas', Garhwal is referred to as Kedarkhand and Kumaon as Manaskhand, the chief minister said in the statement.

The tableau featured the Jageshwar Temple in the midst of Deodar trees, the Corbett National Park, and animals and birds unique to Uttarakhand, besides the famous Aipan art.

The Centre is yet to formally announce the list of winners for this year's parade.

BJP To Take Out 'Janandolan Yatra' Across Delhi In March

With an eye on the 2024 general elections and the Delhi assembly polls the following year, the city BJP unit will take out a 'Janandolan Yatra' across the national capital in March to reach out to voters.

Besides telling voters about the work done by the Modi government, the yatra will focus on how the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) dispensation in Delhi has failed to address issues like pollution even after being in power for almost eight years, a senior BJP leader said.

The 'Janandolan Yatra' in March will cover all the 70 assembly constituencies and see the participation of party leaders and workers from the respective areas and state office-bearers, a senior Delhi BJP functionary said.

Senior leaders including Union Minister Anurag Thakur had called upon Delhi unit workers to start preparations for the Lok Sabha elections and to uproot the Kejriwal government in the 2025 assembly polls.

"There are 13,000 polling booths in Delhi and the 'Janandolan Yatra' will go to each of them to tell people about the Modi government's various development and welfare initiatives in Delhi.

"It will also focus on how the AAP government has failed to address real issues like water supply, infrastructure, transport and pollution, among others, despite being in power for nearly eight years," said a senior Delhi BJP leader.

The participants of the yatra will tour every constituency on two-wheelers for maximum coverage, he said.

To strengthen ward and booth-level organisations, the BJP will form working groups for better coordination in the execution of party programmes and campaigns.

"The ward and booth-level committees will also be expanded by including 'panna pramukhs'. These committees will have 250-300 members after the inclusion of 'panna pramukhs'," the party leader said.

A 'panna pramukh' or person in-charge of a page of the voters' list is the first point of contact for most voters in the BJP's election management machinery.

The BJP will also carry out a verification exercise to ascertain the number of active 'panna pramukhs', they said.

The BJP won all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi in 2014 and 2019. It's looking to repeat the performance in 2024.

The party, despite facing strong anti-incumbency, performed reasonably well in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections in December last year, winning 104 of the 250 wards.

According to BJP leaders, the 2025 Delhi assembly polls will be the party's real test.

The AAP registered massive victories in 2015 and 2020 in Delhi, winning 67 and 62 of the 70 assembly seats, respectively.

Japan Nuclear Power Plant Shut Down Automatically, No Radiation Rise Seen

A reactor at a Japanese nuclear power plant automatically shut down on Monday after an alert, but no radiation rise was detected and regulators said they were investigating the cause.

The reactor at the Takahama power plant in central Fukui region halted at around 3:20 pm (0620 GMT) after an alarm warning of a rapid decrease in the number of neutrons, according to the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA).

But the NRA said in a statement that the "reactor is cooling normally" and "there is no impact on the surrounding environment", as no abnormalities in radioactive levels were detected.

Operator Kansai Electric Power Co said in a statement it was still investigating the cause.

Fukui regional officials also said it was unclear what had caused the alarm to go off, according to public broadcaster NHK, though they noted there were no abnormalities in reactor temperature or pressure.

The reactor, one of four at the Takahama plant, only restarted operations late last year after routine inspections.

There are 33 reactors in Japan, but fewer than a third are back in action more than a decade after a deadly tsunami in March 2011 caused a meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear plant.

Not all are operational year-round, and the country is heavily dependent on imported fossil fuels.

With Japan facing its most severe energy crisis in decades, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in August that the country should consider building next-generation nuclear reactors.

Priyanka Gandhi said, "My brother has been walking for four-five months. Earlier I used to think that the journey was very long, how would it be possible, for people would welcome him with an open heart or not? But wherever Rahul Gandhi's Yatra went, people welcomed him a lot with love."

"In this country, people have a passion for non-violence, for the constitution. I thank the people of Jammu & Kashmir because the people here have supported us wholeheartedly. When Rahul Gandhi was coming to Kashmir, he sent a message to me and my mother Sonia Gandhi and said, " I am feeling very good that I am going to my home," she added.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday hoisted the National flag in Srinagar at the party office in Srinagar.

The tricolour was hoisted in the presence of party MP Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.

Today marks the culmination of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Previously Rahul Gandhi had also unfurled the national flag at Lal Chowk in Srinagar as the Bharat Jodo Yatra entered its last leg in the union territory on Sunday.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra, which started in Kanyakumari on September 7 concludes today January 30 in Srinagar after covering 3,970 km, 12 states, and two Union territories.

The Congress has extended invitations to 21 political parties for its concluding function at the Sher-e-Kashmir stadium here.
