Video: Water Level Surges In Sikkim River Amid Heavy Rain 1 Swept Away

Sikkim has received unprecedented rain since Thursday night, marking the arrival of monsoon in the state. The heavy rain led to one casualty in West Sikkim's Rimbi, where a cattle-herder Ash Lall Limboo, 90, was swept away after water level in a river next to his cowshed suddenly rose. The body was recovered from Namchi district on Friday.

Visuals from Rolep in East Sikkim show an excavator next to a river swept away by strong currents. Meyong river in Mangan district overflowed, and water spilled on to the National Highway connecting North Sikkim.

The road connecting Singtam, Dikchu, Rangran, Mangan and Chungthang has seen a number of landslides.

The damage started at 6.15 pm on Thursday on either side of Rangarang in Sikkim. The road was blocked from both sides of the town due to landslides. This consisted of mainly loose stones and boulders that rolled down from mountain tops and covered the entire road, making it impassable for traffic.

A flash flood on the Mangan to Chungthang road washed away a portion of the road and a small bridge in North Sikkim.

Landslide in Chungthang saw a truck getting submerged, resulting in the National Highway connecting Lachung and Lachen villages being blocked.

Roads connecting Mangan and Dikchu are blocked. Dikchu to Gangtok via Rakdung-Tintek road is cleared for light vehicles only.

Mangan to Chungthang road is blocked at many stretches.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Sikkim said the threat of heavier downpour and flash floods in Mangan district in North Sikkim remains a high possibility over the next few days.

"Lachung village received 13 cm rainfall last night. Chungthang in North Sikkim again received 11 cm rainfall, Gangtok also received in 11 cm rainfall last night. Mangan town received 10 cm rainfall. The heavy rainfall is not due to the cyclone affecting other parts of the country, this was mostly due to monsoon rainfall," IMD Sikkim Director Gopinath Raha said.

62-Year-Old Woman Mauled To Death By Leopard In Uttarakhand

A woman was mauled to death by a leopard in a village in Chinyalisaur block here on Friday, the village head said.

Bhagirathi Devi (42) was attacked by the leopard when she had gone out to bring fodder for her cattle, village head Shivraj Bisht said.

The incident took place in Kotisaur Bharkot, he said.

According to Mr Bisht, the leopard is a man-eater, which has attacked around a dozen people in the area so far.

There is resentment among locals for the forest department's failure to take enough safety measures.

The locals have threatened to resort to agitation if something was not done immediately to capture the leopard.

The North Carolina lottery stated in a release that "Sana, a 39-year-old dance instructor, purchased his $30 Millionaire Maker ticket from Neuse Shop & Fuel on West New Bern Road in Kinston."

Delhi Man Dupes People By Posting Fake Job Advertisements Arrested: Cops

A 38-year-old man was arrested for allegedly duping job seekers by posting fake advertisements on social media platforms about recruiting "playboys and masseurs", police said on Friday.

The accused, Ashraf Khan, a resident of Shaheen Bagh in southeast Delhi, is the mastermind behind the racket, they said.

Ashraf Khan was previously arrested in two other cases, they said.

The matter came to light after a victim who was duped of Rs 40,000 by the accused filed a complaint at the cyber police station of Shahdara district, police said.

The victim, in his complaint, alleged that he found an advertisement on Facebook recruiting job seekers as "playboys and masseurs".

When he contacted the number posted on the advertisement, he transferred Rs 40,000 as a registration fee to the bank provided by a woman caller. Later, he tried to contact the number but it was found to be switched off.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Rohit Meena said after examining the alleged social media account and IP address, the accused was identified and arrested.

"During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused posted advertisements regarding recruitment of playboys, masseurs and others on Facebook and also mentioned a contact number on it," he said.

"He also recruited three-four women callers to talk with the victims. Under the false assurance of high earnings, they lured victims and cheated maximum amounts. The accused person then used multiple fake accounts to withdraw the money," he said.

The mobile phone and SIM card used in the commission of the crime was recovered, police said, adding further investigation is underway.

Centre's Big Yoga Day Plan: A Look At Ministers' Yoga Day Schedule

The government has planned several events to mark the International Yoga Day on June 21 with Union Ministers and BJP leaders participating in yoga sessions and other related programmes across the country. While Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will be in Odisha, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lead a yoga session on INS Vikrant.

Ashwini Vaishnaw will visit Odisha's Balasore on Wednesday, weeks after a tragic train accident in the district on June 2 that killed 290 people. His visit coincides with the International Yoga Day.

The minister will be meeting and thanking doctors, nurses, and medical staff who played a crucial role in rescuing and assisting the victims during the challenging time of the tragic accident. He will also review the situation and will be holding multiple meetings with the concerned authorities. Mr Vaishnaw will also be attending a yoga function.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also lead a yoga session for the first time at United Nations Headquarters on the 9th International Day of Yoga.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will do yoga on India's indigenously-built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will lead yoga day celebrations from AIIMS in Delhi.

The Union Ministry of Tourism has organised celebrations in Goa's Rajbhavam where G20 Ministers and delegates will actively participate in a yoga session.

A grand event will be held in Garrison Ground in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh on June 21 to mark International Yoga Day which will be telecast live in 80 countries, an official said.

The theme of the 9th International Yoga Day is 'vasudev kutumbakam ke liye Yog' (Yoga for the world as a global village), Jabalpur Collector Saurabh Suman said.

The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness of the many benefits of yoga. The draft resolution establishing the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states.

The proposal was first introduced by PM Modi in his address during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly, in which he said, "Yoga is an invaluable gift from our ancient tradition. Yoga embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action ... a holistic approach [that] is valuable to our health and well-being. Yoga is not just about exercise; it is a way to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature."
