China's Xi Condemns Pakistan Mosque Blast, Says "Will Continue Support"
China's President Xi Jinping strongly condemned an attack at a mosque in neighbouring Pakistan, state media reported Wednesday, after rescue work ended with the death count at 101.
The suicide blast on Monday in Peshawar struck inside a police compound as hundreds of officers gathered for afternoon prayers.
The city's police chief said Tuesday that the attack was revenge for the force's frontline operations against Islamist militants.
In a call with Pakistan's President Arif Alvi on Wednesday, President Xi said China "opposes all forms of terrorism and strongly condemns the incident", according to state broadcaster CCTV.
Beijing "will continue to firmly support Pakistan in promoting its national counter-terrorism action plan, maintaining social stability and protecting the safety of the people," President Xi said.
China and Pakistan are longtime allies, with their leaders frequently hailing what they call an "iron brotherhood".
In recent years, Beijing has financed development projects in Pakistan and worked with Islamabad to combat terrorism and improve security.
But sporadic attacks on Chinese citizens have also taken place, including a suicide bombing last year targeting staff at a Confucius Institute in Karachi.

Joe Biden's Beach Home In Delaware Searched By FBI: Report
Federal law enforcement began a search Tuesday of President Joe Biden's beach house in Delaware, his lawyer said, in the latest stage of an operation to track down improperly stored classified documents.
The search in Rehoboth, which attorney Bob Bauer said was done "with the president's full support and cooperation," followed similar searches that turned up small numbers of documents in Joe Biden's home in Wilmington and a former office space in Washington, DC.

Myanmar Extends State Of Emergency By 6 Months
Myanmar's National Defence and Security Council has agreed to extend the country's state of emergency by six months, state media said Wednesday, likely delaying elections the junta had pledged to hold by August.
Junta chief Min Aung Hlaing's request to prolong the state of emergency declared when the generals toppled Aung San Suu Kyi's government in February 2021 was granted, state broadcaster MRTV said.
The "state of emergency will be extended for another six months starting from February 1", Acting President Myint Swe was quoted as saying.
"Sovereign power of the state has been transferred to commander in chief again," he added.
The state of emergency was due to expire at the end of January but on Tuesday the junta-stacked National Defence and Security Council met to discuss the state of the nation and concluded it "has not returned to normalcy yet".
Junta opponents, including anti-coup "People's Defence Forces" and a shadow government dominated by lawmakers from Suu Kyi's party, had tried to seize "state power by means of unrest and violence", the military's information team said in a statement.

Google Engineer Laid Off During Mental Health Leave, Shares Post
A US-based Google engineer was fired after receiving an email at 2 am while she was out on mental health leave. Ali Neil, 29, was among 12,000 workers laid off by the tech giant.
In a LinkedIn post, Ms Neil said that at least her leave positioned her to be somewhat prepared for an event like this. It took her a few days to accept it and come to terms with what happened.
She wrote, "After having some time to really settle with everything that's happened over the past week, I thought I'd add some colour to my exhausted post I shared early last Friday after not being able to sleep. It wasn't all that great still being awake at 2:06 AM to read that email."
She added that she was devastated by the news and Neil said that is "somewhat comfortably unsettling" to think about what is next after Google.
She wrote, "I absolutely miss my team and the myriad of colours in the company culture that is Google, the experience of it all, and being Googley. But it's also such a good reminder in my life that, it's still an Enterprise Multinational Company. An Entity, not an Identity, and that means there's so much more to explore and continue to give 110% toward. I feel so very proud to have gotten where I am today, and to see what's next."
In her post, she thanked her teammates and managers for her time at the tech giant.
In an interview with Insider, she said she was taken aback by the severance notice. "Now I'm left here having to find a job for the first time in years after being on mental health leave in quite possibly one of the most difficult hiring situations and housing markets."

Debt-Ridden UP Businessman Shoots Self On Facebook Live; Dies
A 45-year-old businessman, who was allegedly being harassed by money lenders, died after shooting himself while hosting a Facebook Live session in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia, police said on Wednesday.
The purported video of Nand Lal Gupta has been widely shared on the social media, they said.
Nand Lal Gupta, who has a gun shop on the railway station road, shot himself on Wednesday afternoon inside his shop, Additional Superintendent of Police Durga Prasad Tiwari told reporters.
A forensic team was also called to the spot, the ASP said, adding action will be taken on the basis of facts.
Necessary legal action will be taken after receiving the complaint from the relatives. The video of the incident on social media will also be included in the investigation, he said.
In the video, he is heard saying, "We are being unnecessarily harassed. I had taken some money and have already given back more.
"All the money lenders have troubled us. Honourable Yogi ji and Modi ji should do justice. They even got our house written in their names today. I don't want to live anymore," Gupta shot himself after saying this, police said.
