ISIS Operative Sentenced To 7 Years In Jail By Anti-Terror Court In Delhi
A special NIA court here convicted an operative of banned global terror group ISIS and sentenced him to seven years in jail, an official said on Tuesday. Adnan Hassan, who was arrested on January 29, 2016, over his affiliation with ISIS, was convicted by the special court in Delhi on Monday, a spokesperson of the federal agency said.
He was handed over the jail sentence along with a fine of Rs 4,000 under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The official said Hassan was found guilty in the case related to the ISIS Abu Dhabi module. The case pertains to the criminal conspiracy involving Indian nationals Sheikh Azhar Al Islam Sattar Sheikh, Mohammed Farhan Mohammed Rafiq Shaikh and Adnan Hassan.
"These individuals are members of the proscribed terrorist organization, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), along with other yet unidentified associates. Their conspiracy aimed at identifying, motivating, radicalizing, recruiting, and training susceptible youths for planning and execution of terrorist attacks," the spokesperson said.
The NIA had registered a case on January 28, 2016, under relevant sections of IPC and UA(P)A as on the orders of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
"The investigation has revealed that Hassan used a variety of online platforms and methods, including posts, news articles, comments, videos, images, and the commentary of Islamic scholars, to motivate individuals to join ISIS. He also provided financial support to the accused Abdullah Basith and other associates," the spokesperson said.
On the basis of evidence, a chargesheet was filed against Hassan in the special court on July 25, 2016.

Israel-Hamas War Upsets Saudi Prince's Hopes Of "Biggest Historical Deal"
Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had a vision for the Middle East that placed shared economic benefits at its heart - including a historic alliance with Israel.
Even a potential solution over a Palestinian state didn't seem beyond the realms of possibility - a longstanding sticking point between the two countries. "Good negotiations" are ongoing to achieve that goal, the 38-year-old de facto Saudi leader said in an interview with Fox News last month. The US is pushing the talks and "the biggest historical deal since the end of the Cold war" is a realistic prospect, he told the TV channel.
After last weekend's deadly attacks by Hamas on Israel, those hopes have been upended. The incursion also turns attention toward Iran, which has never wavered from its policy of armed resistance to Israel and is a financial and military backer to Hamas.
And Crown Prince Mohammed appears to be already tempering his enthusiasm for a deal with Israel in the short-term by defaulting to the kingdom's more solemn official stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
"The kingdom will continue to stand by the Palestinian nation in its quest for its legitimate rights," he said in a press release after a phone conversation with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday.
Sanam Vakil, director of the Middle East and North Africa program at London's Chatham House think tank, said the attack underscored the idea that a policy of "containment" on Iran and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict isn't an effective way of managing regional security.
"This pours cold water on the mirage of de-escalation," she said.
Minimizing Threats
MBS, as the oil-rich kingdom's crown prince is known, had previously taken steps to deescalate regional tensions and minimize threats to his multi-trillion-dollar plan to transform Saudi Arabia's economy by 2030. The kingdom is the home of Islam's two most holiest sites, giving it particular importance in the region and creating a tricky balancing act between religious and secular objectives.
The prince's pitch has been that economic development and prosperity in his country will benefit a region mired for too long in wars and ideological differences.
To that end, he forged a Chinese-brokered deal in March with regional rival Iran, embarked on direct negotiations with Tehran - backed Houthi rebels in neighbouring Yemen - against whom he had waged war for eight years - and made overtures to Syria's pariah President Bashar Al-Assad.
He has said Saudi Arabia's own economic success hinged on a stable, peaceful and thriving region that gave everyone including Iranians and Palestinians "a good life." He told Fox News he wanted something substantive for the Palestinians as part of a three-way bargain with Israel and the US, but declined to be specific.
Deadly Fallout
Hamas's surprise attack on Israel - which has left at least 1,600 people dead on both sides - effectively rules out any agreement between Israel and the Palestinian authorities that would help achieve Saudi Arabia's objectives. That means any normalization deal between Israel and Saudi Arabia is probably on hold for the foreseeable future.
Hamas's attack "stalls Saudi Arabia's stabilization and development plans" for the region, said Lina Khatib, director of SOAS University of London's Middle East Institute.

That might actually be a lesser worry for MBS than how events have been playing out among the Saudi population.
In a country where the government tightly controls social media posts and people have been arrested for being too outspoken about certain issues, many Saudis took to the internet to praise Hamas's actions and denounce Israel.
Othman Al-Khuwaiter, a Saudi energy sector expert and columnist based in the eastern Saudi city of Dhahran, reveled in what he characterized as the humiliation of Israelis.
"God willing, this will be seared in their memories forever," Al-Khuwaiter wrote. "They are under siege just when they thought they were masters in full control."
At the start of the attack over the weekend, Saad Al-Bazei, a professor of English at King Saud University in Riyadh, hailed "the unprecedented and glorious achievements of the Palestinian resistance deep within Israel."
Social media accounts of individuals who normally post every utterance by MBS and praise his every move were quick to hit back.
'Grand Project'
"This is an attack on Saudi Arabia's grand project for the Middle East and we must be in solidarity with the state of Israel," Badr Al-Saadoun, a Riyadh-based lawyer, wrote on social media site X.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry called for an "immediate end to escalation by both sides" but added that "the exploding situation" was a result of Israel's "occupation and deprivation of the Palestinian people of their legitimate rights and the systematic provocations against their sanctities." The statement was widely shared by Saudis defending Hamas's actions.
Mark Dubowitz, chief executive of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a Washington-based think tank that has been involved for years in efforts to forge Saudi-Israeli normalization, said the statement angered many of Israel's allies in the US and prompted calls to Saudi officials in Riyadh and Reema bint Bandar, the Saudi ambassador in the US.
A spokesperson for the embassy said he couldn't immediately comment.
As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed massive retaliation for Hamas's actions, it would be unthinkable for MBS to deliver an Israel normalization deal to his people during carnage in Palestinian territories, Dubowitz said.
"This is very much what" Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei "intended," he said.

"Only Wants To Make His Son Chief Minister": Amit Shah's Jibe At KCR
A day after the announcement of the assembly poll dates in five states, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday addressed 'Jana Garjana Sabha' public event in Telangana's Adilabad saying that Chief Minister KCR's goal is to make his son KTR the Chief Minister.
"The Chief Minister (K. Chandrashekar Rao) has just one goal - to make his son KTR the Chief Minister. Our goal is to provide employment and education to every tribal youth in Adilabad and water in the farms of farmers," Amit Shah said while addressing a 'Jana Garjana Sabha' public event in Telangana's Adilabad.
Continuing his attack against the KCR government, Amit Shah asked the public whether they want to bring KCR government once again or government of lotus (Kamal ki sarkaar).
"Election Commission announced the dates for the Telangana election yesterday. Tell me do you want to bring KCR government once again? Do you want to bring the 'Lotus government' under the leadership of PM Modi? Your answer says that BJP government is going to be formed here on 3rd December," Amit Shah said.
He further promised that if BJP forms the government, all districts of the state will celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day on September 17.
Attacking Congress, Amit Shah said that when elections come, Congress people come wearing new clothes.
"Rahul Gandhi has also started visiting here. I would like to ask him - when there was UPA Government, in 2013-14 what was the budget for tribal welfare? Only Rs 24,000 Crores. By 2023-24, PM Modi increased the budget for tribal welfare to Rs 1,24,000 Crores," he added.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leaving no stone unturned for the upcoming Assembly polls in Telangana.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced that the Telangana Assembly polls are scheduled to be held on November 17. The counting of votes will be done on December 3, the poll body added.
Telangana is set to witness a triangular contest between the BJP, the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi and the Congress in the upcoming assembly election.
In the previous Assembly election held in 2018, BRS managed to win 88 seats out of 119 and had a dominant vote share of 47.4 per cent. Congress came at a distant second with 19 seats. Its vote share was 28.7 per cent

"NCP Under My Leadership...": Ajit Pawar Amid Fight With Unlce Over Party
Ajit Pawar, who heads one of the factions of the NCP, on Tuesday described himself as the party's national president and defended his move of joining the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government, saying several top politicians took "different" stand in the political history of the state.
In a statement issued to mark the completion of his being 100 days in office as the state deputy chief minister, he called Maharashtra's first chief minister late Yashwantrao Chavan as his source of inspiration. However, he did not mention the name of his uncle and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) founder Sharad Pawar.
Sharad Pawar, 82, considers Yashwantrao Chavan as his political mentor.
Ajit Pawar took oath as the deputy chief minister of the state on July 2, the day he joined the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government along with eight other NCP MLAs.
In his open statement, he said the Maharashtra government was committed to the economic empowerment of all sections of the society, and added that the NCP would work vigorously to achieve the goal.
In the statement, Pawar, who described himself as the national president of the NCP, said employment, economic empowerment of all sections of the society, education, health, implementation of all welfare measures were the priority of the government.
"NCP is committed to achieving these goals by using the medium of power. Criticism is part and parcel of any politician's life. I always take cognisance of constructive criticism. I believe in positive and developmental politics. Taking any work to its logical end and bringing positive changes in the lives of people is what I believe in," he said.
The NCP believes in the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Phule, Shahu Maharaj, Dr B R Ambedkar and Yashwantrao Chavan. Under my leadership, the party will continue this legacy, Pawar said.
"In the political history of Maharashtra, several top leaders have taken a different political stand. Every political leader takes a stand depending on the prevailing political and social situation," he said.
"NCP, under my leadership, took a similar position on July 2, 2023 and joined the state government," he added.
He also laid claim to the legacy of Yashwantrao Chavan, saying the state's first chief minister inspires him to work for the welfare of people.
The NCP will work for farmers, youth, women and for protecting the rights of different sections of the society, he said.
"We have trodden on this path for 100 days and will continue to do so," he said.
Ajit Pawar's move of not mentioning his Sharad Pawar's name is being seen as an attempt to counter the latter's statement that the faction led by his nephew cannot use his name and photo on banners and posters.
The Election Commission is currently hearing the matter related to the split within the NCP. On Monday, it heard the claims of the Ajit Pawar-led faction over its claim on the NCP's name and poll symbol, even as the Sharad Pawar-led group contended that there were discrepancies in the documents submitted by its rival.
The EC fixed November 9 as the next date for hearing the warring factions of the NCP led by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar over their claims to the party's name and election symbol.
Ajit Pawar, who had moved the EC staking claim to the party's name and poll symbol, submitted that he had the support of 42 of the 53 NCP MLAs in Maharashtra, six of the nine MLCs, all seven MLAs in Nagaland and one member each in the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha.
Two days before the rebellion against his uncle Sharad Pawar to join the Maharashtra government in early July, Ajit Pawar had approached the EC on June 30, staking claim to the party's name as well as symbol and subsequently, also declared himself as the party president with the support of 40 lawmakers.
Recently, the Sharad Pawar-led faction told the EC that there was no dispute in the party, except that a few mischievous individuals have defected from the organisation for their personal ambitions, a reference to the rebel group headed by Ajit Pawar.

Video: Israeli Drone Footage Claims Attack On Hamas Hideouts In Gaza
High-altitude footage released by the Israel Defense Forces - and shared online by an open-source intelligence handle Monday evening - spotlighted devastating aerial strikes on Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip. The 14-second clip begins with multiple rocket missile strikes on what seem to be residential colonies. At least six explosions are recorded - flashes of orange followed by plumes of ominous and slow-spreading dark grey smoke that blanket the surrounding areas.
The camera then seems to pan and zoom in to show smoldering concrete shells that were once houses and apartment blocks. The centre of the neighbourhood appears to have been completely levelled.
There is absolutely no movement of sign of life.

— OSINTdefender (@sentdefender) October 9, 2023
Multiple reports indicate that over 1,300 people have been killed in a bloody and brutal war after Hamas fighters took Israel by surprise and stormed past one of the world's most fortified borders.
So far more than 800 people have died in Israel and around 560 in Gaza. Several thousands more have been injured and, according to the United Nations, 1.23 lakh have been displaced so far. There is no estimate of property damage yet but this likely to run into the billions by the time the dust settles.
An Israeli government bent on revenge has vowed to obliterate the Hamas; Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has ordered a "complete siege" of Gaza, which is home to 2.3 million people and is already a heavily blockaded strip of land. "No electricity, no food, no water, no gas. It's all closed," he said.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared war on Hamas and has vowed to reduce to rubble all of the group's hideouts in Gaza. He has warned civilians to stay away from such structures
However, as ex-PM Yair Lapid told NDTV, Israel appears less concerned about the death of civilians and non-combatants; "We are going to do our best to avoid killing bystanders and collateral damage, but there will be (collateral damage) because this war is in a very densely populated area," he said.
READ | "There Will Be Collateral Damage...": Ex-Israel PM's Warning To Hamas
On Day 3 of the war, Israel fighter jets and attack helicopters continue to pound the Gaza Strip. The IDF said over 500 Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets in the Strip had been attacked since Sunday night.
Tel Aviv has also massed tens of thousands of troops along the Gaza border.
Meanwhile, Hamas has kept up a steady barrage of rocket strikes while hundreds of its gunmen engage Israeli ground forces in border towns. Israeli officials have accused the Hamas of going door-to-door to take hostages back to Gaza, and that these include children and elderly people.
READ | Video: How Party Turned Into Tragedy As Hamas Gunmen Storm Israeli Music Festival
The war - the bloodiest in nearly five decades - broke early Saturday morning after an estimated 1,000 Hamas gunmen attacked Israeli border posts under the cover of a barrage of rockets that proved too much even for that country's famed Iron Dome, or all-weather aerial defence system.
Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh has vowed to continue "the battle to liberate our land...", and has called on "resistance fighters in the West Bank" as well as in "Arab and Islamic nations" to join the war.
The attack has also prompted questions over the failure of Mossad and Israel's much-vaunted intelligence network to raise a red flag. Experts suggest this means Hamas is evolving as a military outfit - into one capable of conducting top-secret long-term strategic operations.

"Harassed As I Didn't Bow Before BJP": Bengal Minister On CBI Raid
Senior West Bengal minister Firhad Hakim, who was questioned by the CBI after his residence was raided on Sunday, lambasted the BJP for "employing government agencies to harass him as he didn't bow before the saffron party".
The CBI carried out searches at 12 locations, including the homes of Hakim and TMC MLA Madan Mitra, in various parts of the state as part of its investigation into alleged irregularities in recruitment processes within civic bodies.
The raid and questioning at Hakim's Chetla residence in south Kolkata began at 9 am and continued for nearly nine hours.
Mr Hakim, who serves as the minister for urban development and municipal affairs and also holds the position of mayor of Kolkata, is a prominent figure in the TMC with significant influence within the party's structure.
A visibly frustrated Mr Hakim, while addressing a press conference outside his residence, said, "What have I done to warrant such treatment? Am I a criminal? Can they provide any concrete evidence of wrongdoing on my part? According to the municipal act, does the municipal affairs minister have any role in appointments? The BJP has no justification for subjecting me to this unwarranted scrutiny."
Mr Hakim accused the BJP of resorting to the "use of central agencies to target him and other TMC leaders because they have not succumbed under the BJP's pressure".
He argued, "The BJP cannot compete with us on a political level; therefore, they are resorting to the use of central agencies to intimidate me. They are doing this simply because I have refused to bow down to their demands."
Meanwhile, Kamarhati's TMC legislator Madan Mitra, addressing a protest organised outside the Raj Bhavan, alleged that the BJP, unable to secure electoral victories, is now relying on the coercive tactics of central agencies to intimidate the ruling party in the state.
"They cannot win elections, and are now attempting to bully us using central agencies. However, this will not yield any result, and the BJP will once again face defeat in the Lok Sabha polls," he added.

Abandoned Rail Coaches To Be Turned Into Restaurants At Jammu, Katra Stations
The Indian Railways is converting two abandoned railway coaches into theme-based restaurants at Katra and Jammu railway stations here.
The initiative has been named "Beautiful Restaurants on Wheels" under which old train coaches are being refurbished and transformed into rail coach restaurants.
"Two rail-coach restaurants are under work in Jammu and Katra. This is a scheme of Indian Railways under which old coaches are converted into rail-coach restaurants. Tenders have been granted to two different parties," Divisional Transportation Manager, Jammu, Prateek Srivastava told PTI.
He said the two AC restaurants combined will bring in an annual revenue of Rs 50 lakh.
"Under this plan, we are offering these coaches to private parties to create state-of-the-art restaurants according to their own designs," he said.
The first coach restaurant is expected to open its doors by December, with the coaches already in place. The two restaurants will have been named 'Annapurna' and 'Maa Durga'.
"It will take 90 days to convert a coach into a fully functional restaurant. It will be equipped with all the necessary facilities," Pradeep Gupta, the owner of Annapurna Restaurant, told PTI.
Restaurants on a similar line have already been successfully launched at nine to 10 major railway stations across India.
"The initiative is being experimented nationwide. To my knowledge, it is already operational at several railway stations like Jabalpur, Bhopal, Lucknow, and Varanasi," the DTM said.
The two restaurants at Jammu and Katra railway stations will also serve non-vegetarian food and will be fully air-conditioned, he said.
Surjeet Singh, a passenger from Delhi, said tourists are excited about the rail-coach restaurants in Jammu.
"It will be a great addition to the beauty of the place. It's the first restaurant of its kind here, offering a different and unique dining experience at the railway station," he said.
Rajiv Dwivedi, who was visiting Mata Vaishnodevi cave shrine, said, "It is a commendable step. Thanks to the government for taking this initiative. I believe the food will be excellent." The Railways' Food-on-Wheels restaurants will feature stylish interiors and exteriors, along with display panels offering virtual tours of various destinations in Jammu and Kashmir, with photos showcasing the cultural essence of Dograland, officials said.

Cop Found Dead With Injury Marks On Body In Rajasthan, Murder Case Filed
A 45-year-old Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) constable was found dead here on Sunday morning, police said. Police suspect constable Amar Singh, posted in the RAC fourth battalion, was apparently attacked with a sharp-edged weapon, which led to his death.
"Multiple injury marks caused by a sharp-edged weapon were found on the victim's body, raising suspicion that he was attacked by someone when he went out of his home in the evening," ACP (Amer) Aditya Poonia said.
He said the family members and locals will be questioned after the postmortem, which will be conducted at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital.
A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was called to examine the spot and the CCTV footage of the area is being examined, police said.
A case of murder has been registered under section 302 of the Indian penal code, police added.
The BJP has targeted the state government over alleged poor law and order situation.
"The incident of murder of an RAC constable in the capital Jaipur is a proof that not only the common people, but even the khakis are not safe in the state. Under the anarchy of the Congress government, murder has become a daily affair. Those responsible for law and order are silent and the security of the state was left at the mercy of God," Leader of the Opposition Rajendra Rathore said on X.

Major Airlines Cancel Dozens Of Flights To Tel Aviv After Hamas Attack
Major airlines have cancelled dozens of flights to Tel Aviv this weekend after the Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise large-scale attack against Israel.
American Airlines, Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates and Ryanair are among those pulling flights to Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport.
However, airport authorities did not stop commercial air links with Israel's second international airport at Eilat, a tourist destination on the Red Sea.
And Israeli flag carrier El Al said Sunday that it was maintaining its Tel Aviv flights for now, though some flights operated by foreign partners had been cancelled.
"We might cancel flights to places where we don't have a lot of Israelis to help other Israelis in other places," a spokeswoman told AFP.
In a statement, El Al added that it was operating "in accordance with the instructions of the Israeli security forces", with all flights now departing only from Terminal 3 at Ben Gurion airport.
Like most other airlines, it said clients could change their tickets without charge.
A Lufthansa spokesman on Saturday cited "the current security situation" to say it was cancelling all flights to and from Tel Aviv "up until and including Monday", adding that it was monitoring the security situation in Israel.
Brussels Airlines, part of the Lufthansa group, also cancelled its Tel Aviv flights.
Air France said it had halted Tel Aviv flights "until further notice", and the Air France-KLM group's low-cost carrier Transavia said it was cancelling all flights from Paris and Lyon to Tel Aviv up to and including Monday.
Spanish airline Iberia announced that its budget subsidiary Iberia Express was cancelling its Tel Aviv flights.
Italy's flag carrier ITA airways cancelled its flight until Sunday morning at the earliest "to protect the safety of passengers and crew", while Polish carrier LOT also cancelled its flights from the Polish capital on Saturday.
Other airlines suspending flights included Aegean, Swiss, Austian Airlines, Wizz Air and Air Canada.
