Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani visited Somnath Mahadev temple in Gujarat on the occasion of Maha Shivratri today. He was seen offering prayers with his son and chairman of Reliance Jio Akash Ambani.

Mr Ambani also donated Rs 1.51 crore to the Somnath temple trust, reported news agency ANI.

Last year in September, Mukesh Ambani had visited Lord Venkateswara temple in Andhra Pradesh's Tirumala and made an offering of Rs 1.5 crore. He was accompanied by his son Anant's fiancee Radhika Merchant and Reliance Retail Ltd Director Manoj Modi.

"My Apologies...": Elon Musk Takes Swipe At Former Twitter Ads Head

Elon Musk has hit back at former Twitter ads head Bruce Falck for saying that the Twitter CEO has no idea of what he is speaking about. It all started when Mr Falck criticised Mr Musk's apologetic message to Twitter users for showing them commercials. "Sorry for showing you so many irrelevant & annoying ads on Twitter," Mr Musk tweeted. In response, Mr Falck said, "As the former lead for Ads at Twitter, I can confidently say this man has no idea wtf he's talking about."

This exchange provoked a response from Mr Musk, who fired back with a sarcastic reply. "My apologies, you must be a genius, which is why Twitter has the worst ad relevance on Earth. Almost nobody buys anything on Twitter, but almost everyone on Instagram does. That is being fixed," the Twitter chief wrote.

Notably, Mr Musk has previously announced that a higher-priced subscription to the microblogging platform with no ads will be available in the coming weeks.

"Ads are too frequent on Twitter and too big. Taking steps to address both in coming weeks," he tweeted. "Also, there will be a higher-priced subscription that allows zero ads," Mr Musk added.

Meanwhile, Mr Musk has never been one to shy away from a fight. Yesterday, he even denied reports that he had asked engineers at the micro-blogging platform to boost his tweets. The report stated that Mr Musk had asked Twitter engineers to change the algorithm and prioritise his tweets as he was unhappy with the views his posts were getting during the Super Bowl.

This change reportedly resulted in a glut of Elon Musk's tweets on the feed of millions of users, even those not following the tycoon. However, denying the allegations, the billionaire said that the source of the report was a disgruntled Twitter employee who is on his way out.

"The "source" of the bogus Platformer article is a disgruntled employee who had been on paid time off for months, had already accepted a job at Google and felt the need to poison the well on the way out. Twitter will be taking legal action against him," the Twitter chief wrote in a tweet.

China's Ruling Communist Party Claims "Decisive Victory" Over COVID-19

China's ruling Communist Party has claimed to have scored a "decisive victory" over the coronavirus pandemic by minimising the casualties and staunchly defended its much-criticised zero-COVID policy, saying that it has succeeded in preventing the widespread prevalence of variants.

Since December last year, millions of people in China contracted the Omicron virus and unofficial reports said thousands of people, especially those above 60 years old, fell victim to it.

More than 200 million people were treated and nearly 800,000 patients in severe conditions received effective treatment, according to an official press release issued after the party's political bureau meeting held on Thursday.

With a strong sense of responsibility and strategic resolve, China has optimised and adjusted the COVID-19 prevention and control measures in light of the evolving situation, and effectively balanced pandemic containment with economic and social development, it said.

"As a result, we have succeeded in preventing the widespread prevalence of variants that are more virulent and fatal, effectively protecting people's safety and health, and buying us precious time for winning the battle against the pandemic", it said.

"We have scored a decisive victory in our response to COVID-19. China, a country with a large population of 1.4 billion, has created a remarkable feat in the history of human civilisation by successfully walking out of the pandemic," the party claimed.

Since November 2022, the focus was on optimising response measures to safeguard the health and prevent severe cases and secure a smooth transition within a short period of time, it said.

China's mortality rate of COVID-19 has been kept at the lowest level globally, it said without providing any data on the death count during the recent Omicron spread in the country.

Last month Chinese health officials reported 59,938 new coronavirus deaths in hospitals across the country over the last 30 days, amid criticism from the WHO that Beijing was heavily under-reporting the magnitude of the pandemic.

China was the rare country where its vaccination campaign focused more on people below 60 years to keep the working-age population safe.

The country's zero covid policy was effective to halt the Delta variant but fell flat to containing the Omicron variant of COVID.

Periodic lockdowns of top cities including Shanghai and arbitrary sealing of residential buildings resulted in rare public protests in December last year, prompting the government to lift the restrictions suddenly. It resulted in the massive spread of Covid in the country.

China reopened its borders to international travellers on January 8 after nearly three years.

The coronavirus initially broke out in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019 before it spread to other countries and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation.

Can India Reintroduce Asian Cheetah? South Africa's Expert Explains

It would be impossible for India to reintroduce the Asiatic cheetahs because there are only a few left and that is why it had to choose South African cheetahs, according to a leading expert here.

Vincent van der Merwe, a veterinarian who is closely involved in the project which will see 12 South African cheetahs land at Gwalior Air Force base on Saturday morning, explained that there were only about 30 to 40 Asian cheetahs left in the Asia region, all of them in Iran.

"So, it would be impossible for India to take cheetahs from Asia for this reintroduction because there are a few left. Maybe one day we might be able to save the Asiatic cheetah. It's a very different-looking cheetah, but this is a species that is essentially at the end of the run," he said.

Van der Merwe said the Asian cheetah had once been endemic to all of Asia but had been rendered extinct through centuries of agricultural growth encroaching on their territory.

Speaking at a briefing in rural Limpopo province on Thursday night ahead of an event where the cheetahs were being prepared for the flight from O R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Friday evening to be sent to India, van der Merwe said they were aware that India has a lot of predators that the local cheetah would never have come across before.

"So, we have selected our very best cheetah for relocation. These are animals that know what to do when they encounter lions. These animals are out there to get them and they are vigilant to the presence of these predators. They immediately know that they must move in the opposite direction. The cheetah that we are sending to India will know what to do," he said.

Being the fastest land animal on earth, no predator has a chance of catching a running cheetah.

"We want wild and functional cheetahs introduced into India. They must know what to do when they see lions or leopards, because these are the predators that they are going to encounter in India, alongside sloth bears, wolves for the first time, and Indian wild dogs," said Van der Merwe.

Adrian Tordiffe, Associate Professor and Veterinary Wildlife Specialist at the University of Pretoria, who has also been deeply involved in the project, explained the cheetahs were sedated and brought in from their holding fenced areas to receive vaccination and other medication before being revived in the crates in which they would be transported to India.

"When we are translocating animals, we want to make sure that we are not reintroducing any disease into the wildlife population in India and at the same time we want to make sure that whatever they are going to be exposed to in India is not going to detrimentally affect them," Tordiffe said.

Tordiffe was also very complimentary of the Indian team that he and his team had worked with.

"There so many lessons that we can learn from them in terms of how they deal with human-wildlife conflict and the way they manage their open system parks, which we are very scared of doing (in South Africa)," he said.

Tordiffe was referring to the fact that India's reserves are mainly open, where animals can roam free, often with human settlements adjacent to them. South Africa's reserves are all fenced in.

"It has been absolutely wonderful working with what I consider some of the best carnivore conservationists in the world. My colleagues in India have done a marvellous job at the conservation of the tiger. Their tiger population has also doubled in the last ten years," Tordiffe said.

Dr Amit Mallick, Inspector-General of the National Tiger Conservation Authority, shared his optimism about the South African cheetah adapting to the Indian condition.

CCTV Video Shows A Deer Crashing Through Classroom Window In US School

An elementary school in the US was in for a surprise after a deer crashed into a classroom by breaking through its glass window. Security cameras installed at the Evergreen Elementary School in Alabama captured the unusual incident and shared it on their Facebook page.  According to the time stamp on the video, the incident happened on February 11, Saturday.

The CCTV video shows the deer darting and dashing into an empty classroom through a window. Since there was no one inside the classroom at that moment, no one was injured by the shattered glass. Meanwhile, the clueless deer can be aimlessly wandering inside the room and inspecting its surroundings. The school said the deer struggled to walk on the school's waxed floors before wandering around "for a couple of hours." 

The Evergreen Elementary School shared several clips of the incident on its Facebook page and wrote, ''We had an unexpected intruder this weekend that undoubtedly wanted to see all the GREAT things that were going on in our school. 

Below you can see camera clips capture a doe jumping through a window in one of our classrooms. It stayed for a couple of hours and then decided to leave. It struggled for a few minutes to learn how to walk on our waxed floors. Once acclimated to the new environment, it jumped out of the window as fast as it entered. We were glad to see the deer not injured.'' 

Internet users were both surprised and amused at the incident. One user wrote, ''Since Evergreen City School, became Evergreen Elementary school in 2002 I have never known anything to happen like this!! YESSSSS THERE has been a few snakes entering the building, but this just takes the cake!! OMG!!!!" 

Another commented, ''Oh this really precious.'' ''That's insane,'' wrote a third. 

Last year, a video of a monkey entering a classroom full of students in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh went super viral. The monkey was spotted attending classes with students at the government school. It was even seen casually sitting in the back row, while the teacher continued to teach the little kids.

Watch: Hidden Cameras Capture Birth Of Two Critically Endangered Sumatran Tiger Cubs At UK Zoo

A zoo in the UK recently welcomed the arrival of twin Sumatran tiger cubs, dubbing the birth a "significant step forward". The two cubs were born to first-time parents Kasarna and Dash on January 7 at the Chester Zoo located in Cheshire. It is to be noted that only 350 Sumatran tigers are thought to remain in the wild, making them one of the world's rarest tiger subspecies. The zoo said that it has been a 'privilege' to welcome the tigers into the world, and added that ''it is a vital step in the long-term efforts to protect these incredible animals.''  

Hidden CCTV cameras which have been installed in the den have also captured the birth of the two Sumatran tiger cubs.  

The official account of Chester Zoo shared the video on Twitter and wrote, ''We're delighted to share that two incredibly rare Sumatran tiger cubs have been born! Our hidden cameras captured first-time mum Kasarna and her adorable new arrivals soon after birth on January 7.''

The 1-minute and 12 seconds clip further shows the two little Sumatran tigers playing around and bonding with their mum Kasarna.  

"We've been closely monitoring Kasarna on our CCTV cameras as she gets to grips with motherhood and her first litter of cubs - it's a real privilege and incredibly special to watch. She's a great mum and is being very attentive to her new infants, keeping them snuggled up in the den and feeding them every few hours," Dave Hall, carnivore team manager at Chester Zoo, said.  

Mr. Jordan, from the zoo, said Kasarna's cubs were "absolutely crucial to the survival of the species". 

"They are the latest additions to an insurance population in conservation zoos that will be the driving force in preventing the Sumatran tiger from enduring the same fate as the Javan, Caspian, and Balinese tigers, which have all sadly been wiped out forever," he added.  

 Zookeepers say the new arrivals are yet to be sexed and will be named once they start to gain confidence and venture outside, which experts estimate will be in early April. 

Notably, Sumatran tigers are listed as Critically Endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Habitat loss, poaching, and conflict with humans could see the carnivores become extinct, the zoo said.

UP Minister Calls Samajwadi Party Leader 'Ravana' Over Ramcharitmanas Remark

Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Minister Gulab Devi on Thursday compared Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya, who demanded a ban on a portion of Shri Ramcharitmanas, to 'Ravan'.

The minister made the remark in a press conference during her visit to the centres for the UP Board Examination.

"Even Ravan did not believe in Ramcharitmanas," she said.

"But Ravan had Ram in his heart. He went to heaven but what was his condition before that? Ramcharitmanas is a scripture full of qualities of humanity. It is a question of our faith," the minister said.

"There is an emptiness in the hearts of those who do not believe this. They are criticising Manas to make their politics shine," she said.

Mr Maurya, a Legislative Council member, had in a statement last month demanded a ban on a couplet from Shri Ramcharitmanas, terming it derogatory towards Dalits and women.

On the Kanpur Dehat incident where a woman and her daughter immolated themselves during an anti-encroachment drive, the minister said, "it was heart-wrenching." "There should be no politics on this. One should sympathise with the survivors of the victim's family. The government should compensate them. Action is being taken against the culprits," she said.

On the UP board exams, she said anyone found involved in cheating will be booked under the National Security Act.
