Avoid Using Free Charging Stations At Airports And Hotels, FBI Warns

No one likes it when their phone runs out of power when they're far from home. In that moment of crisis, public charging stations available at airports, cafes, and hotels may seem like a lifesaver but charging phones at such places could have unfortunate consequences. 

Recently, The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned people not to connect to the free power but instead carry their own chargers and USB cord that plug into an outlet.

On April 6, the FBI's Denver office tweeted a serious warning to smartphone owners to avoid using free public charging stations. ''Avoid using free charging stations in airports, hotels, or shopping centers. Bad actors have figured out ways to use public USB ports to introduce malware and monitoring software onto devices. Carry your own charger and USB cord and use an electrical outlet instead,'' the tweet reads.

In its tweet, the FBI said that crooks have been known to use the USB ports to infect phones with dangerous malware and software that can give hackers access to your phone, tablet, or computer.

On its website, the FBI also warned people saying, ''Be careful when connecting to a public Wi-Fi network and do not conduct any sensitive transactions, including purchases, when on a public network.

Those who are handing over money online are urged to ''examine the email address in all correspondence and scrutinize website URLs as well as thoroughly check all payment requests, and to never click links in an unsolicited email.''

Previously, the FBI warned about the dangers of plugging into public USB ports, known as ''juice jacking.'' It noted that criminals have been known to install infected USB ports that can export personal data and passwords directly to them from the phone.

It explained, ''Cybersecurity experts have warned that criminals can load malware onto public USB charging stations to maliciously access electronic devices while they are being charged. Malware installed through a dirty USB port can lock a device or export personal data and passwords directly to the perpetrator. Criminals can use that information to access online accounts or sell it to other bad actors.''

The FBI recommends creating a strong and unique password for every online account and changing them regularly. It also aksed people to regularly update phones, set up multi-factor authentication, and keep an eye out for sophisticated phishing scams.

According to recent data from the FBI, Americans lost a staggering $10.3 billion to internet scams in 2022.

"Last Nail In Coffin": BJP's Dig At Congress Over Sachin Pilot's Protest

The Rajasthan BJP took a dig at the ruling Congress in the state over Sachin Pilot's day-long fast here on Tuesday, saying those who helped the party form the government were "on the streets" protesting against it now.

BJP leaders, including leader of opposition Rajendra Rathore, party's state president CP Joshi and Rajya Sabha member Ghanshyam Tiwari led a 'Jan Aakrosh Rally' in Churu and submitted a memorandum to the district collector, raising various issues such as law and order, corruption and non-fulfilment of promises made to people by the Congress party.

"The rally is being organised at a time when leaders of Congress are on the streets against their own government. This rally has done the work to put the last nail in the coffin of the Congress government," Mr Rathore told reporters in Churu.

His reference was to Congress leader Sachin Pilot, who held a day-long fast in Jaipur on Tuesday to press his party's government to act on cases of alleged corruption related to the previous BJP government. Sachin Pilot launched his fast disregarding a warning by Congress, which said a protest against the Rajasthan government would amount to anti-party activity and go against its interest.

Asked about Sachin Pilot's demand for action in corruption cases during the BJP rule, Mr Rathore said the Congress leader did not raise the issue in the last four years and did not speak about it in the state assembly. Mr Rathore claimed Sachin Pilot was using BJP's shoulder to "end his own frustration" with the Ashok Gehlot government.

Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot have been at loggerheads ever since the Congress formed the government in Rajasthan in December 2018. On several occasions, their feud has spiralled into the public embarrassing their party.

Sachin Pilot was the Rajasthan Congress chief when the party came to power and he was later made the deputy chief minister. However, he was removed from the posts in July 2020 after he led a rebellion against the Gehlot government.

Having a dig at the Congress over Sachin Pilot's day-long fast, BJP state president Joshi said the people under whose leadership the Congress fought the last assembly polls were protesting against their own government.

Joshi said Sachin Pilot's protest suggests there has been corruption under the Gehlot government.

"In every district, corruption, crime against women and crime against SC/STs have occurred," he added.

Meanwhile, Mr Rathore exuded confidence that the BJP would sweep the Shekhawati region - comprising Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu - in the upcoming assembly polls and a BJP government would be formed in the state.

Ryan Reynolds Purchases 1.5 Million Pound Home Close To His Football Club

Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds has bought a home worth 1.5 million Pounds in a small Welsh village, Metro reported. The purchase comes after the Deadpool actor acquired the Wrexham Football Club with fellow actor Rob McElhenney. As per the report, the actor's new purchase is a four-bed property in Marford, five miles from Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.

The star has become sort of a local hero after he bought the struggling football club. The property purchase has also drawn attention from the local villagers who claimed, ''The most famous person from Marford is Tim Vincent from Blue Peter, so a Hollywood star is a step up!''

Notably, Mr Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought Wrexham FC back in 2020 and have already spent 10m pounds on the club. Thanks to their efforts, the club has climbed to second in the National League this season, as per Wales Online.

The Hollywood star has also brought along his wife and children multiple times to watch the club in action. Last month, Mr Reynolds was spotted on the Racecourse pitch before their game against York as he was seen enjoying a family outing.

However, he admitted that his wife Blake Lively was initially not happy with her husband's football purchase.

In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, he said, "I remember seeing Blake, saying, 'I have bad news and I have really bad news. I slipped into someone's DMs again. The really bad news is that I might have bought half of a fifth-tier national football league in Wales."

She later came on board and was seen at matches cheering for her husband's team and interacting with crowds.

Mr Reynolds normally lives in New York, where he stays in a 4.3 million pounds property with his actress wife Blake Lively and their four children.

Massive Blaze In Himachal's Kullu Causes Damages Worth Rs 2 Crore

Nine shops and four houses were destroyed in a fire that broke out near an old bus stand in Kullu district's Banjar area in the early hours of Monday, police said.

No casualty was reported but property worth around Rs 2 crores was damaged in the fire, Deputy Commissioner Kullu Ashutosh Garg told the PTI.

After noticing the fire, the home guard on night patrolling informed the fire tenders, police said.

The fire tenders managed to douse the blaze but by then the fire had spread to adjacent shops and houses as the buildings were old and had wood work.

Nine shops and four houses have been completely destroyed in the fire while five shops or houses were partly damaged, Garg said, adding the property loss is estimated to be around Rs 2 crores.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, officials said.

Earlier there were apprehensions that a person sleeping in one of the accommodations was missing but later he was traced.

UP Police Constable Charged With Rape, Forced Abortion, Extortion

A head constable here has been booked on the charges of rape, molestation, extortion, blackmail and forced abortion of a woman, officials said on Sunday.

The victim, in her complaint on Monday, alleged that about a year ago head constable Pannalal came to her house with another person and raped her while the other person filmed the act, they said.

The policeman started blackmailing the woman by threatening to upload the video on the internet and extorted Rs 7 lakh from her, the victim said in the complaint.

She also alleged that the constable forced her to abort her pregnancy after the rape, police said.

Following this, an inquiry was conducted by the circle officer in which prima facie the allegations levelled by the woman were found to be true, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) OP Singh said in a statement.

An FIR was filed at the Civil Line police station on Sunday and the constable has been suspended with immediate effect, Mr Singh said, adding Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Ajay Pratap has ordered an investigation into the matter.

After the visit, PM Modi tweeted, "Today, on the very special occasion of Easter, I had the opportunity to visit the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Delhi. I also met spiritual leaders from the Christian community." The prime minister's rare visit to the church is imbued with political significance as well, as the ruling BJP has been actively wooing Christians.

PM Modi in his recent speeches has underlined the minority community's growing connect with the BJP by citing the party's poll successes in Goa and recently, in the two northeastern states of Nagaland and Meghalaya. These states have a large Christian population.

PM Modi has underscored his government's commitment to the mottos of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas' and development for all without any discrimination.

The BJP is looking for support from the community in Kerala, the state with their largest population in the country, as it works to make a fresh headway there after tasting little success in previous elections.

The party's leaders in the state also met with community leaders on Sunday.

Anil Antony, son of senior Kerala Congress leader A K Antony, a Christian, joined the BJP a few days back.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi tweeted, "Happy Easter! May this special occasion deepen the spirit of harmony in our society. May it inspire people to serve society and help empower the downtrodden. We remember the pious thoughts of Lord Christ on this day."
