"Nawaz Sharif Will Change Destiny Of Country": Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif
Fielding for the return of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that his return will change the destiny of the nation and urged people to make their decisions after looking into the performance of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government, Geo News reported.
While addressing the cheques distribution ceremony under the Prime Minister's Youth Business and Agriculture Loan Scheme, Shehbaz Sharif said, "Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the entire leadership of PML-N will change destiny of the country by taking it on the path of progress and prosperity."
The PML-N party is eyeing on Nawaz Sharif return as it considers that the comeback will give them boost in the election, which is set to take place in October-November, as the tenure is going to end in mid-August.
In order to bring Nawaz back in the power, the PML-N coalition government has passed a law in June limiting the disqualification of parliamentarians to a maximum of five years, benefiting the PML-N chief, who had been disbarred from running for office for a lifetime.
Sharif said that his party would accept the public's mandate in the upcoming polls, urging the people to make their decisions after looking into certain facts and by juxtaposing the performance of the PML-N governments with that of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf's (PTI) four-year saga of destruction.
The prime minister mentioned that PTI's tenure was tainted with huge corruption scams - including sugar and wheat scams, BRapid Transit Peshawar, Malam Jabba, sale of Toshakhana gifts, an Pound 190 billion UK agency corruption. "No one could deny these stark facts," he added.
While lauding the statesmanship qualities of Nawaz, who is his elder brother and a three-time premier, PM Sharif regretted that the former prime minister was removed from power despite the fact that he had ended hours-long crippling load shedding, provided laptops and loans to youth, brought muti-billions China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CEPC) power and road infrastructure projects during 2015, reported Geo News.
On the other hand, he said, PTI Chief Imran Khan had a "phobia of PML-N leadership" and the opposition, as day in and day out, he was "hell-bent" on putting them in jails in "fake cases". He said that the PTI chief could not assimilate the revolutionary steps taken by the PML-N government.
The prime minister went on to say that Nawaz and his party had experienced the worst kind of political vendetta, even though they were sent into exile after ouster from power, but unlike the PTI chief, the PML-N supremo never thought of anything against the country.
PM Shehbaz said that Khan, who was brought to power through "fake elections", kept on chanting the corruption charges during his four years in power but failed to prove them.
"When he (Khan) was removed from power corridors through a constitutional manner, he used dirty language and tactics against the state institutions," he added.
Speaking about the recent cut in petroleum prices, he said that the relief had been passed on to the masses in the wake of the strengthening of the rupee against the dollar.
He further stated that the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) programme is a challenge for the country instead of relief, but bold decisions will be helpful for stabilising the country's economy, as per Geo News.

"Erodes Public Trust": Delhi Court Denies Bail To Accused In Loan Fraud Case
A court here has denied bail to a man in a money laundering case related to an alleged bank loan fraud, saying such "unscrupulous shenanigans" erode public trust and weaken the foundations of economy.
Dismissing Bharat Rana Chaudhary's bail application, Special Judge Neelofer Abida Perveen termed the modus operandi used by him "sinister", and said he was "prima facie" tampering with evidence and creating false evidence.
The ED claimed Chaudhary caused a loss of around Rs 30 crore to Punjab National Bank due to credit repayment default during 2010 to 2012.
"The allegations are exceedingly serious, the offence grave, not merely from the standpoint of the large volume of POC (proceeds of crime) involved, the modus operandi was so elaborate and sinister that accused adopting such devious designs succeeded in duping the bank multiple times siphoning of huge amounts of public money in the process, layering and re-routing the same to himself and gratifying other unsavoury elements and operations in the process," the judge said.
She said there was no material placed before the court to record a prima facie satisfaction in favour of the accused he was not guilty of money laundering.
"It is indeed such unscrupulous shenanigans that erode public trust and weaken the foundations of the economy, and warrant for economic offences to be treated as a separate class unto itself," the judge said.
She also noted the accused had failed to join investigation despite being summoned on numerous occasions and was shown to have been non-cooperative all along.
Also, the search at his premises lead to a seizure of documents indicating that these were in the process of being fabricated, the judge noted in an order passed on July 12.
"The end user of the POC (proceeds of crime), a substantial part is yet untraced and the possibility does not sound too baseless and farfetched of the accused tampering with evidence to evade the discovery of end user of POC that remains to be unearthed. That the accused is not likely to commit similar offence also is not satisfied in favour of the accused," she said.
The accused had sought bail on the ground that the case was registered way back in 2015 and that he was arrested by the ED on February 14, 2023.
He claimed no purpose will be served by keeping him further custody since after completion of investigations, the charge sheet has already been filed in case.
The ED opposed the application, saying the arrest was made to prevent the tampering of evidence, influencing of witnesses, and the derailment of money laundering investigations.
It said there was enough evidence suggesting he was tampering with the evidence and creating false evidence to justify the transactions in his firm's account.
According to the ED, Chaudhary with the help of others took a loan from Punjab National Bank on the basis of false, forged and fabricated valuable securities, fake identity documents, forged rental deeds, forged collateral security papers, fake audited balance sheets and other documents.
On the basis of forged and fabricated documents he took Cash Credit Facility in the name of different firms namely Surya Impex, Jupiter Trading and Four Season Agro Products Ltd/ Four Seasons Sortex Pvt Ltd during 2010 to 2011, and by way of fraudulent means he siphoned off the loan funds and never utilised the same in the business activity of these firms.
The ED claimed the accused caused a loss of over Rs 30 crore.

Cash-Strapped Pakistan Lost Over $8 Billion In Remittances, Exports In FY23: Report
Pakistan incurred a $8.3 billion loss in remittances and exports during the previous fiscal year as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led coalition government chose to appease the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a $1.2 billion tranche, according to Dawn.
Due to a lack of attention to these two big inflows, Pakistan lost considerably more than it received from IMF borrowings and inflows from other sources.
According to Dawn, Pakistan received a nine-month $3 billion loan package for FY24 in exchange for a massive tax burden, historically high-interest rates, and record inflation and currency depreciation in FY23.
The remittances declined by 13.6 per cent to $27.024 billion against $31.278 billion in FY22, a loss of $4.252 billion.
Interest-free inflows are falling as the government stays focused on IMF financing.
According to Dawn, inflows from Pakistanis abroad fell even lower than the $29.449 billion received by the government in FY21, after increasing by a record $6.317 billion above the $23.132 billion in FY20.
The growth trajectory has been lost in FY23 despite over a million Pakistanis leaving the country for jobs mainly in the Middle East.
The inflows could be much higher due to the increased number of overseas Pakistani workers. Still, they fell mainly due to the political and economic crisis which dominated the entire fiscal year creating uncertainties for all stakeholders including the overseas Pakistanis, Dawn reported.
"Despite the month-to-month decline in the remittances, the government remained busy with the IMF for loans while it has been losing interest-free inflows without any strings. Attention was needed to address the declining trend but it looks borrowing was more important," said Atif Ahmed, a currency dealer and expert in the interbank market.
At the same time, the exports began falling and finally ended with a decline of 12.7 per cent to $27.74 billion compared to $31.78 billion last year, a net loss of $4.04 billion, Dawn reported.
The twin declines resulted in a net cumulative loss of $8.294 billion. The amount is almost equal to 30 per cent of the exports recorded in FY23.
The State Bank of Pakistan reported collective inflows of $4.2 billion from the IMF, Saudi Arabia and UAE this month. Pakistan hopes to get more borrowed dollars in the coming weeks and months after the IMF's support but the loss of $8.3 billion is still higher.
This was why many analysts believed the IMF loan would no longer positively impact the economy, including the exchange rate.
"A fresh inflow of $4.2 billion has significantly lifted sentiment. IMF's programme was one of a kind, custom-made to fit Pakistan's current needs and assisted with a political nudge to get this far. This shows how US and Gulf states consider Pakistan to be geopolitically too important and too big to fail," said Faisal Mamsa, CEO of Tresmark and a financial expert.
"While the improved reserves are being cheered at, the backlog of payments (imports, profit repatriation, etc) estimated to be around $6 billion, will not allow the rupee to strengthen above its current levels," he said.
The dollar appreciated against Pakistani Rupee in the interbank market in the last session of Friday reflecting the fading impact of the IMF's support, Dawn reported.
If the inflation stays elevated, interest rates may not go down any time soon, Mr Mamsa said. The IMF predicts 25 per cent inflation for FY24.

Iran Relaunches Police Patrols Against Veil Violations
Iranian police on Sunday relaunched patrols to catch the increasing number of women leaving their hair uncovered in public in defiance of a strict dress code, state media reported.
The report comes exactly 10 months after the September 16 death in custody of Mahsa Amini, 22, triggered nationwide protests and saw morality police largely disappear from the streets, while more and more women flouted the law.
Amini, an Iranian-Kurd, had been arrested by morality police for allegedly violating the dress code, which requires women to cover their head and neck in public.
While the morality police withdrew, authorities have taken other measures to enforce the law. These included the closure of businesses whose staff do not conform to the rules, and installing cameras in public places to track down offenders.
But starting Sunday, the traditional approach is being tried again, state media said.
"The police will launch car and foot patrols to warn, take legal measures, and refer to the judiciary those who disobey police orders and disregard consequences of dressing against the norms," the official IRNA news agency quoted police spokesman Saeed Montazer Almehdi as saying.
Online images have shown female police officers, clad in all-black chadors, berating and arresting women whose heads were uncovered. AFP could not independently verify the authenticity of the images.
The dress code has been in place since the aftermath of the Islamic revolution of 1979. Offenders face fines or prison terms of up to two months.
But Iran's reformist newspaper Shargh reported on Sunday that four women have received additional punishment including attending "psychological classes", and driving bans.
During the months of protest, which Tehran generally labelled as foreign-instigated "riots", thousands of Iranians were arrested and hundreds killed including dozens of security personnel.
Iran's conservatives, who dominate the country's parliament and leadership, have passionately defended the dress code but, with many Iranians demanding change, in May the judiciary and the government proposed a "Support for the Culture of Hijab and Chastity" bill, which sparked heated debate within the country.
The text proposes increased fines for "any person removing their veil in public places or on the internet" but withdraws the threat of a prison sentence.
Within Iran's leadership "there is no consensus on the hijab", as some favour repression, while others "believe that other means must be tried", sociologist Abbas Abdi has said.
The United States, Britain and the European Union have imposed several rounds of sanctions on Iran over its response to the protest movement.

I Was Fired For Telling The Truth About Ukraine War, Says Russian Army General
A Russian army general has said he was removed from his job for telling the truth about the war in Ukraine and the conditions of his soldiers on the front lines.
According to audio released by a Russian lawmaker, this revelation came from Major General Ivan Popov, who commanded Russia's troops in the southern Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine, leading the 58th Combined Armed Army.
This news has come to light at a time when it has been more than two weeks since the Russian army's uprising was put down, the future of the mercenaries remains uncertain, and the course of the Ukraine war remains uncertain.

An armed soldier stands guard during a funeral ceremony to bury the remains of sixty service members of the Russian armed forces and three civilians.
According to NBC News, in an audio message apparently intended for his soldiers but posted to Telegram on Wednesday by Andrey Gurulev, a politician and a former deputy commander of Russia's Southern Military Command, Popov appears to say he was removed from his post for speaking the truth.
"I called things by their proper names and focused on the most important thing-the tragedy of the modern war. This is the absence of counter-battery combat, reconnaissance, and the massive injuries of our brothers from enemy artillery," Popov said, according to the audio clip.
Gurulev, a member of United Russia, the largest party in Russia, did not say how he obtained the recording.
According to the news agency Reuters, Major General Ivan Popov said Russian soldiers had been stabbed in the back by the failings of the top military brass.
He said in a voice message that "The Ukrainian army could not break through our ranks at the front but our senior chief hit us from the rear, viciously beheading the army at the most difficult and intense moment,".
Popov, whose military call sign was "Spartacus" and who commanded Russian units in southern Ukraine, explicitly raised the deaths of Russian soldiers from Ukrainian artillery and said the army lacked proper counter artillery systems and reconnaissance of enemy artillery.
There was no immediate comment from the defence ministry and Reuters was unable to independently verify the authenticity of the voice message. Lawmaker Gurulyov is a hardline former army commander who regularly appears on state television.

Over 20 Killed In South Korea Due To Landslides, Floods; 14 Still Missing
22 people have died, 14 were missing and thousands evacuated in South Korea as of Saturday, according to ministry data, as a third day of torrential rains caused landslides and the overflow of a dam.
As of 6 p.m. (0900 GMT), 4,763 people had been evacuated nationwide, according to the Ministry of Interior and Safety, as water overtopped the dam in North Chungcheong province on Saturday morning.
Local governments' evacuation orders covered more than 7,000 people at various times, according to provincial authorities.
The tally is expected to rise as more heavy rain is expected on the Korean peninsula on Sunday, the Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted.
Korea Railroad Corp said it was halting all slow trains and some bullet trains, while other bullet trains might be delayed due to slower operation, as landslides, track flooding and falling rocks threatened safety.
A slow train derailed late on Friday when a landslide threw earth and sand over tracks in North Chungcheong province, the transport ministry said. The engineer was injured, but no passengers were on board.
In a meeting with government agencies on Saturday, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo called for the military to actively join in rescue activities, working with government officials to mobilise equipment and manpower.

"He Didn't Get Politics And...": Devendra Fadnavis' Dig At Uddhav Thackeray
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today took a veiled dig at Uddhav Thackeray, saying the former chief minister used to say that he didn't understand politics, budget etc, whereas the current government understands them.
Speaking at the 'Shasan Aplya Dari' (government at your doorstep) programme here, Fadnavis said the Shiv Sena-BJP-NCP (Ajit Pawar camp) government will change the life of the common man.
"Our previous chief minister used to say that he didn't understand politics, budget, cooperative sector and many other things. Therefore (Sharad) Pawar saheb wrote in his book (autobiography) that he (Uddhav) didn't know politics either. But we know everything - budget, politics and economics," Mr Fadnavis said.
He said the current government is working under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has implemented various welfare schemes and is credited for the removal of poverty.
Mr Fadnavis also listed various measures being implemented by the state government in the last year after coming to power.
"We increased the honorarium of anganwadi workers and kotwals. We took decisions such as granting a 50 per cent concession to women in MSRTC bus travel and free travel to senior citizens (above 75). I hope this government will fulfil all your expectations," he added.
Mr Fadnavis invoked Lord Ram while speaking about the government programme as Nashik houses the famous temple of the deity.
"The government has not come to your doorstep only but also in the court of Lord Ram. Nashik is a land of Kumbh Mela. This programme is a Kumbh Mela itself. It allows us to serve you as part of our effort to take the government to the last person," he said.
"Despite this, some people have problems. To find a remedy to their problems, we brought Eknath Shinde, and now we have brought Ajit dada (Pawar). Our government completed one year recently. In this period, we brought Maharashtra to the number one spot in investment and industries. This government has the faith of the country and the industrial sector," Mr Fadnavis added.
He said aid worth Rs 10,000 crore has been given to farmers.
"With the 'Namo Shetkari Yojana', we gave Rs 12,000 (Rs 6,000 by the state govt and Rs 6,000 by the Centre) to farmers. With the 'Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana', we will fulfil the demand for electricity supply during the day," Fadnavis added.
He said every farmer in Nashik will get a 12-hour electricity supply during the day in the next three years.
"Under the Smart scheme, agro-business societies will be formed in 10,000 villages and agreements have been signed with 43 corporates including Reliance Industries. Farmers can sell their produce directly and can also avail of cold storage, godown and other facilities. Farmers should not worry as largescale funds will be made available for them," Mr Fadnavis added.
He said a decision about the Neo Metro project and Nashik-Pune railway project will be taken soon.
Mr Fadnavis said farmers should not worry despite less rainfall this year as the government is standing behind them with various schemes at its disposal to make farmers drought-free permanently.
Speaking to reporters at the Nagpur airport earlier, Mr Fadnavis said the alliance (with Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, BJP and Ajit Pawar-led NCP) will run smoothly.
"Everything between us will go on smoothly just as the Cabinet allocation was done smoothly. Because all three parties have decided that we will work together in the interest of Maharashtra," he said.
Cabinet expansion too will take place without any hitch, he said.
On the appointment of guardian ministers of districts, Mr Fadnavis said it will be done soon after discussions among the allies, and would not present any problem.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was on Friday allocated the key Finance and Planning portfolio, which was earlier held by Mr Fadnavis, while some of the eight other NCP leaders who joined the state cabinet with him a fortnight ago were also given important portfolios like cooperation and agriculture.

Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif Launches $3.5 Billion China-Designed Nuclear Power Plant
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday launched the 1200-megawatt nuclear power plant being built with China's assistance in Punjab province which is seen as a sign of growing strategic cooperation between the two all-weather allies.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sharif had inked an agreement with China worth a whopping USD 3.5 billion under which Beijing would build the Chashma-V nuclear plant at Chashma in the Mianwali district of Punjab.
He had termed the nuclear power plant agreement signing as a token of increasing economic cooperation between Pakistan and China and vowed to complete the project without any delay.
"The Chashma-5 nuclear energy project, which is by itself a huge milestone, a huge success story and a wonderful symbol of cooperation between two great friends," Sharif said.
"This mutual cooperation to promote clean, efficient and comparatively cheaper energy is a gift of friendship between the two countries and a model for other countries to emulate," he said.
He said that the new power plant would be completed in the next seven to eight years, noting it would be a great favour to the people of Pakistan as the industrial and agriculture sectors consistently stress the need for cheaper and more efficient energy.
The premier also expressed his gratitude to China for its longstanding support saying, "Unless we mention the role of our great and most trusted friend China, the story will remain incomplete." Chashma power plants are considered a key in the production of cheap nuclear power. The installed capacity of the existing four power plants is 1,330 megawatts, according to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
Two other nuclear power plants are also operational in Pakistan. Karachi Nuclear Power Plants (KANUPP 2 & 3) have a capacity of 2,290.
The prime minister on the occasion also spoke about the deal with the International Monetary Fund which averted the threat of default and highlighted the role of China in helping Pakistan in tackling the economic difficulties.
"The risk of potential default has been completely averted through team efforts - untiring efforts - from all the components of the government of Pakistan and all our institutions," he said.
Sharif recalled that China rolled over more than USD 5 billion back to Pakistan in the past four months. "This is not a small contribution by a great friend at a time which was one of the most difficult times Pakistan was facing," he said.
Pakistan received USD 1.2 billion from the IMF on Thursday following approval by the global lender's executive board to provide USD 3 billion to the debt-trapped nation over a period of nine months.
Pakistan's economy has been in a free fall mode for the last many years, bringing unbridled pressure on the poor masses in the form of unchecked inflation and making it almost impossible for a vast number of people to make ends meet.

Yamuna Water Inundated Pathways Of Gandhi Memorial At Rajghat: Official
Water from the Yamuna entered Mahatma Gandhi's memorial at Rajghat in Delhi, inundating its lawns and pathways, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti Vice-Chairman Vijay Goel said today.
Goel said the flood water rose up to the memorial complex's entrance and later inundated the pathways leading to the marble platform where Gandhi was cremated.
"However, the water just touched the lower portion of the marble platform and the flame atop it was unaffected," he told PTI.
Visuals of Rajghat showed water surging on the Ring Road and entering the memorial.
Goel said a part of the wall of the Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti collapsed under the pressure of the water.
Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told reporters that the flooding at Rajghat was due to the backflow from a drain in the area.
A PTI video showed the memorial's pathways and lawns inundated by waist-deep water.
Rajghat, built in Mahatma Gandhi's memory on the western bank of the Yamuna in Delhi, measures 44.35 acres. The memorial is a square stone platform in black marble.
The memorial was built on the site where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated after his assassination on January 30, 1948, at Delhi's Birla House.
