Ajit Pawar Explains His No-Show During Amit Shah's Mumbai Visit
NCP leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Sunday rejected speculation regarding his absence at Union Home Minister Amit Shah's programs in Mumbai a day before and said he had informed Mr Shah's office about his prior engagements in advance.
Mr Shah visited the residences of Chief Minister Ekanth Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take darshan of Lord Ganesh. He also went to the famous Lalbaugcha Raja pandal. Later, he delivered the Laxmanrao Inamdar Memorial Lecture at Mumbai University where he spoke about the cooperation movement.
"I was in Baramati on Friday. I have allotted my time for Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune and Baramati on Sundays, Mondays and Fridays, respectively. The annual meeting of Baramati Bazar Samiti, Barmati Bank, and Sahyog Grihnirman Sanstha was scheduled in Baramati on Friday. I had already informed Amit Shah's office about the same," Mr Pawar told reporters in Pimpri Chinchwad when asked about his absence during Mr Shah's program.
Queried about a banner projecting his nephew Rohit Pawar as the next Chief Minister, the senior NCP leader, who led a faction of MLAs to join the Shiv Sena-BJP government in July, said such propaganda is a "daydream" unless one enlists the support of 145 MLAs (out of 288).
Responding to a query on the photo shared by Praful Patel, currently with Ajit Pawar faction, with NCP founder Sharad Pawar, the deputy CM refused comments.
"Media always asks me about photographs but I do not want to comment on it. I am here to answer the questions regarding development," he said.
Ajit Pawar also said the state government is positive about giving reservations to members of the Maratha and Dhangar communities.
"All efforts are being made to take a decision within the framework of law and to ensure that quotas of other communities are not affected," he added.
Speaking on the status of the Pune Metro route extension, he said the proposal for the Pimpri to Nigdi metro extension has already reached Delhi.
"Signature of just one minister is awaited (on the file). When I go to Delhi, I will meet the concerned (minister) and get the work done. A new step will be taken towards fulfilling the dream of the metro for residents of areas from Nigdi to Katraj," he added.

Police Vehicle Set On Fire After Girl, 8, Raped By School Peon: Cops
A class 3 student of Odisha's Rayagada district was allegedly raped by a peon at the school where she studies leading to angry locals setting on fire a police vehicle, the police said on Saturday.
The alleged rape of the eight-year-old Dalit girl took place at an ashram school in Dangasil village on Friday, a senior police official said.
The locals were angry with the police for taking away the peon from them and set the vehicle on fire. They also vandalised a police jeep.
It prompted the police to wield their batons to disperse the mob and detain some persons for their alleged involvement in the violence, the police official added.
"Soon after the incident we arrested the accused and launched an investigation. Strong action will be taken against the people who vandalized the police vehicles," Rayagada Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Sharma said.
The victim is a day scholar in the school run by the Scheduled Tribe (ST), Scheduled Caste (SC) development department of the Odisha government.
The condition of the victim, who was admitted to a hospital, is stable, the police official said.
He said the accused allegedly lured the girl to an empty room of the school when she was on her way to the school after lunch at her home on Friday and raped her. The girl's friends informed the school headmaster and her mother after they spotted her bleeding profusely and crying in pain.
As the news of the incident spread the locals assembled in front of the police outpost at Dongasil and demanded that the school authority handover the accused to them. As the police did not comply with their repeated demand, the angry mob torched the police van and vandalised a jeep.
The official said, five police platoons (one platoon comprising 30 personnel) under the leadership of the additional superintendent of police of Rayagada are camping near the school as the situation is still tense.
Fearing arrests almost all male residents have fled from the village.
The accused peon has been suspended and the school headmaster has been issued a show cause, an official said.
The Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Rayagada, Bidulata Huika has expressed serious concern over the incident. She along with a team of CWC members met the victim and her mother at the Rayagada government hospital.
The team assured them of justice.

Document Experiences Of Organising G20 Summit: PM Modi To officials
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asked officials involved in the G20 Summit to document their experiences that, he said, may serve as guidelines for organising future events. The summit, under India's presidency, was held from September 9 to 10 at the Bharat Mandapam here.
Addressing the officials, PM Modi lauded their contribution and the spirit with which they tackled challenges during the summit.
"The credit for the success of the G20 Summit goes to all of you. I have a request to document your experiences. This will serve as guidelines for future events," Modi said.
The prime minister suggested setting up a website to document the experiences of the organisers.
"Everyone can write in their own languages. How did you overcome the challenges. It can run into 100 pages and can be stored on a cloud instead of a cupboard," he said.
Prime Minister Modi was interacting with around 3,000 people, who contributed to the success of the G20 Summit.
The participants included those who worked at the ground level to ensure the smooth conduct of the summit such as cleaners, drivers, waiters and other staffers from various ministries.

Skincare Tips: Steaming Your Face? Doctor Shares Everything You Need To Know
Face steaming is a skincare technique that involves exposing the face to steam in order to open up the pores, cleanse the skin, and promote relaxation. It is typically done by leaning over a bowl of hot water or using a specialised facial steamer.
Face steaming can be beneficial for the skin in several ways. It helps to soften the skin, making it easier to remove dirt, oil, and impurities. Steaming also increases blood circulation, which can give your complexion a healthy glow. Additionally, it can aid in the absorption of skincare products and provide a soothing and relaxing experience. Dr. Jushya Bhatia Sarin shares everything you need to know about face steaming.
Look at her post:
Here are some dos and don'ts of face steaming:
Dos:
- Do cleanse your face before steaming to remove any makeup or dirt.
- Do use a towel to create a tent over your head while steaming to trap the steam and maximise its effects.
- Do steam your face for about 5-10 minutes to avoid overexposure and potential skin damage.
- Do follow up with a gentle exfoliation or face mask to further cleanse and nourish the skin.
- Do moisturise your skin after steaming to lock in hydration and keep your skin supple.
Don'ts:
- Don't steam your face for too long or too frequently, as it can lead to skin dryness or irritation.
- Don't use boiling water for steaming, as it can cause burns. Opt for hot water at a safe temperature.
- Don't apply too much pressure or scrub your skin aggressively during or after steaming, as it can damage the skin's protective barrier.
- Don't forget to protect your skin from the sun after steaming, as it can become more sensitive to UV rays.
- Don't steam your face if you have certain skin conditions like rosacea or sensitive skin, as it may exacerbate the symptoms.
Remember, face steaming should be done in moderation and tailored to your skin type and needs. If you have any concerns or specific skin conditions, it's always best to consult with a dermatologist before incorporating face steaming into your skincare routine.

What Delhi Court Said On Employing Men As Nurses In Armed Forces
When a woman officer can be posted in Siachen, a man can also be employed as a nurse in the Army, the Delhi High Court observed on Tuesday as it pitched for gender equality in the armed forces.
A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Narula was hearing a petition about the alleged unconstitutional practice of having only women nurses in military establishments.
Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, representing the Centre, said the practices in the Army are based on long-standing traditions.
She, however, said the government has just now brought in legislation to grant 33 per cent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
"Yes, in parliament... On one hand, you are talking about empowering women and on the other, you are saying men cannot join as nurses... If a woman (officer) can be posted in Siachen, then a man can work in R&R (Hospital)," the bench said.
The bench also said the Supreme Court has permitted women to join the National Defence Academy and it has time and again held that there should be no gender bias.
Bhati told the bench the central government has filed its response in the matter.
Advocate Amit George, representing the petitioner Indian Professional Nurses Association, said now there are male nurses in all hospitals and even the Supreme Court has said the practice of excluding one gender from the services has no place even in a military ecosystem.
The High Court said it is an important issue which requires deliberation and listed the petition for further hearing in November.
The High Court had earlier sought the Centre's stand on the plea challenging the "illegal practice" of appointing only women as military nurses.
In its plea, the association has said there are several thousand trained and qualified male nurses in India and their omission from the nursing corps of the Army was "unjustifiable and unconstitutional inasmuch as it deprives them of an avenue of employment and professional advancement".
"The said omission also deprives the military and the nation of a large pool of committed professionals," the petition, filed through advocates George and Rishabh Dheer, said.
The PIL has challenged the provisions of the Military Nursing Service Ordinance, 1943 and the Military Nursing Service (India) Rules, 1944 to the extent that they provide only for the appointment of women as nurses.
It has contended the ordinance and the rules "also perpetuate the stigmatisation and ostracism of male nurses, by singling them out and making them feel unwanted".
It has said such discrimination is contrary to the constitutional scheme and is, therefore, "ex-facie unconstitutional, illegal and arbitrary".
In 2018, the high court termed as "gender discrimination" the Indian Army's practice of having only women in its nursing service while granting time to the Centre to decide on the issue.
